‘Against All Odds’

The Cowboy as a concept embodies the American ethos: spirit, courage, optimism, promise, opportunity, grit and just plain hard work. Still, few know up to one-quarter of working cowboys in the American Wild West were African-American. They were ropers, trail cooks, riders, wranglers, and bronco busters.
The artwork communicates the complex relationship between stoicism and anonymity, between tenderness and strength. Colors and vectors are borrowed from landscapes and flora of the southwest. The pattern used communicates the weight of experience, and the enormity of the journey.
